Der Entstehungsgrund für die Motette ist nicht überliefert. Die Textpassage "Gott, nimm dich ferner unser an" weisen auf den Jahresanfang hin. Eine originale Bc-Stimme der sechs Motetten BWV 225-230 ist nur von BWV 226 und 230 überliefert. Die Bc-Stimme der vorliegenden Ausgabe wurde nach dem Vorbild der Originalstimmen hergestellt.
